An old lady of almost 300 years old [ES-EN]

The University of Havana is the most important in all of Cuba and although I never studied there, my work as a photojournalist led me to portray it for its 295th anniversary. Just as you read it, almost 300 years of history are behind its walls and it is open to visitors almost every day. When I was assigned to portray it, I was tasked to find a way to see it from other perspectives, given the countless number of times it has been photographed, it is quite a challenge. Since 7:30 am I was already at the place because I not only had to take pictures of the university, but I had to cover the event that was held for its anniversary and even photograph different personalities that would be interviewed.

Two things that cannot be overlooked when arriving at this university are its imposing architecture and its famous staircase. Normally the staircase is usually photographed from its lowest part to be able to capture the main building at the same time, but as I have to give it another turn in my photos, I did the opposite to show how Cuban society surrounds this university. That is why in the first photo you can see both the staircase and the buildings outside it that represent the society to which this university has contributed so much in its history. In almost all the following photos I tried to focus on its architecture and to take advantage of the early morning lights that give it a warm touch. In addition to capturing each of its buildings, where the different faculties of studies are concentrated. Some of them caught my attention because it was the first time I entered as such to these buildings, there are many details on the walls that captivate and try to capture.

La Universidad de la Habana es la más importante de toda Cuba y aunque nunca estudie en ella, mi trabajo como fotorreportero me llevo a retratarla por el cumplimiento de 295 aniversario. Así como lo lees, casi 300 años de historia se encuentran tras sus paredes y está abierto a visitas casi todos los días. Cuando se me asigno retratarla, me fue encomendado buscar la manera de verla desde otras perspectivas, dada la innumerable cantidad de veces que ha sido fotografiada es todo un reto. Desde las 7:30 am ya estaba en el lugar, pues no solo debía hacerle fotos a la universidad, sino que debía cubrir el acto que se realizó por su aniversario e incluso fotografiar a distintas personalidades que serían entrevistadas.

Dos cosas que no se puede pasar por alto al llegar a esta universidad son su imponente arquitectura y su famosa escalinata. Normalmente la escalinata suelen fotografiarla desde su parte más baja al poder capturar a la vez el edificio principal, pero como debo darle otra vuelta en mis fotos, hice lo contrario para mostrar como la sociedad cubana rodea esta Universidad. Es por ello que en la primera foto puedes ver tanto la escalinata como los edificios fuera de ella que representan a esa sociedad a la que tanto ha aportado esta universidad en su historia. En casi todas las siguientes fotos trate de enfocarme en su arquitectura y en aprovechar las primeras luces de la mañana que le dan un toque cálido. Además de capturar cada uno de sus edificios, donde se concentran las distintas facultades de estudios. Algunas de ellas me llamaron la atención pues era la primera vez que entraba como tal a estos edificios, hay muchos detalles en sus paredes que cautivan y trate de captar.

I tried to capture some of the daily life in its internal streets, but there was not a large attendance. Most of the students are on vacation, even less than a month ago the seniors graduated, including my wife @aylenmp with a degree in Biology.

Trate de captar parte de la vida cotidiana en sus calles internas, pero no había una gran asistencia. La mayoría de los alumnos están de vacaciones, incluso hace menos de un mes los de últimos años se graduaron, incluida mi esposa @aylenmp como Licenciada en Biología.
