La fotografía documental en blanco y negro dentro del teatro / Documentary photography in black and white within the theater [ESP-ENG]
Siempre me ha llamado la atención la fotografía documental, algo tan simple como captar lo existente en el momento pero tan complejo como intentar lograr ese momento exacto que transmita lo mas posible de cualquier situación. Desde mis comienzos junto a mi primera cámara, este tipo de fotografía ha sido un reto para mí, salía solo a caminar las calles de mi Habana bella y trataba de captar la sociedad a mi alrededor.
No fue fácil, tuve que primero construir esa confianza de dejarme ser visto por las personas que trataba de captar en su vida cotidiana e incluso había momento en que debía hablar con ellos para evitar que se sintieran incomodos, esto ultimo trataba de evitarlo pues podía matar cualquier naturalidad de la persona al estar consciente de que era fotografiado. Pero la confianza creció, incluso invitaba las personas a hacer de modelos por unos minutos cuando me llamaban la atención y luego les enviaba las fotos para que les quedará un recuerdo.
Poco a poco fui creciendo en experiencia, ya me era mas sencillo divisar un buen encuadre entre tantos sujetos y una iluminación acorde a mi estilo para no tener que tocar mucho en edición, recuerden que la fotografía documental no admite cambios bruscos en edición, se muestra la realidad inalterable y nada mas. Ello me llevo a ser invitado a los ensayos de una obra teatral del grupo JazzVila, bastante conocidos en mi ciudad, y fue como tocar un nivel diferente. El resultado de dicha invitación es lo venga a mostrarles hoy y espero sea de su agrado.
Les digo que es todo otro nivel porque la naturalidad de las expresiones o los actos de cada persona no se perdía, era como si yo no estuviera a pesar de estar bastante conscientes de ello. El nivel de concentración que alcanzaban los actores me impresionó mucho y me dio ganas de ir más allá y darlo todo.
Documentary photography has always caught my attention, something as simple as capturing what exists in the moment but as complex as trying to achieve that exact moment that transmits as much as possible of any situation. Since my beginnings with my first camera, this type of photography has been a challenge for me, I went out alone to walk the streets of my beautiful Havana and tried to capture the society around me.
It was not easy, I had to first build that confidence of letting myself be seen by the people I was trying to capture in their daily life and there was even a time when I had to talk to them to prevent them from feeling uncomfortable, that last one I tried to avoid because it could kill any naturalness of the person being aware that he was being photographed. But the confidence grew, I even invited people to be models for a few minutes when they caught my attention and then I sent them the photos so that they would have a memory.
Little by little I grew in experience, it was easier for me to see a good frame between so many subjects and lighting according to my style so as not to have to play a lot in editing, remember that documentary photography does not allow sudden changes in editing, it is shown the unalterable reality and nothing else. This led me to be invited to rehearsals for a play by the JazzVila group, quite well known in my city, and it was like playing on a different level. The result of this invitation is what I come to show you today and I hope you like it.
I tell you that it is a whole other level because the naturalness of the expressions or the actions of each person was not lost, it was as if I was not there despite being quite aware of it. The level of concentration that the actors reached impressed me a lot and made me want to go further and give it my all.
Los actores eran guiados por la persona en la silla, ella dirigía en ensayo cuidando cada detalle del guión y lo que cada actor expresaba con cada linea que iban leyendo. Al inicio cada actor repasaba por separado y luego lo hacían juntos, en ese momento era cuando los sentimientos salían a flote y trataba de captarlo todo. Les dejo las últimas imágenes.
The actors were guided by the person in the chair, she directed in rehearsal taking care of every detail of the script and what each actor expressed with each line they were reading. At the beginning each actor reviewed separately and then they did it together, at that moment was when the feelings came to the fore and she tried to capture everything. She left you the last images.
