Portrait to strangers on the street for free and testing a new lens [EN-ES]
Hello photography lovers, today I want to talk to you about the day I took to the streets offering to take pictures of people I don't know and send them the photos, free of charge. I had two clear objectives that day, to try a fixed lens such as the Canon 50mm f1.8 for the first time and to lose the fear of talking to people I don't know to take a picture of them.
This was before the pandemic arrived in Cuba, so I was not running any risk by talking to strangers, today I do not think I can do it without doing several things, such as doing it from a distance and taking all the sanitary measures.
But hey, let me tell you about that day. My brother-in-law @karelnt had recently bought the lens I told you about before and I had the idea of going out to try it but with unknown people. So we went one day to a very populated area of the city and we started talking to the people who passed by around us. Basically I told them that we were photographers and we were doing free portraits to people who wanted them and we even sent them the digitally edited photos that they wanted. Many people did not want to because they do not like to be photographed, others because they were in a hurry, but in the two hours that we were there we were able to take around 15 portraits. Only 15 people allowed us to capture them despite the fact that it only took 5 minutes to do it, sometimes we extended because the person liked the photos and wanted more, or we delayed talking about how they wanted to take them.
In short, I was able to test a fixed lens that is very good for this type of photography, in addition to discovering that special blur effect it generates. I was able to adapt by conversing with strangers and captured a good variety of people. I leave you some of the portraits I made that day where you can see the different types of people. Hola amantes de la fotografía, hoy quiero hablarles sobre el día que me lance a la calle ofreciéndome a retratar personas que no conozco y enviarles las fotos, sin cobrarles nada. Tenía dos objetivos claros ese día, probar por primera vez un lente fijo como es el 50mm f1.8 de Canon y perder el miedo a hablar con las personas que no conozco para hacerles una fotografía.
Esto fue antes de que llegara la pandemia a Cuba por lo que no estaba corriendo ningún riesgo al hablar con desconocidos, hoy en día no creo que pueda hacerlo sin cumplir varias cosas como hacerlo desde la distancia y tomando todas las medidas sanitarias.
Pero bueno, déjenme hablarles sobre ese día. Mi cuñado @karelnt había comprado hace poco el lente que les comente antes y se me ocurrió la idea de salir a probarlo pero con personas desconocidas. Así que nos fuimos un día a una zona muy poblada de la ciudad y comenzamos a hablar con las personas que pasaban a nuestro alrededor. Básicamente les decía que éramos fotógrafos y estábamos haciendo retratos gratis a las personas que lo deseen e incluso le enviábamos luego las fotos editadas por la vía digital que ellos quisieran. Muchas personas no quisieron porque no les gusta ser fotografiados, otros porque tenían prisa pero de dos horas que estuvimos allí pudimos realizar alrededor de 15 retratos. Solo 15 personas nos permitieron capturarlos a pesar de que solo tomaban 5 minutos hacerlo, a veces nos extendíamos porque a la persona le gustaba las fotos y quería más, o demorábamos conversando sobre como querían hacerlas.
En resumen logré probar un lente fijo que es muy bueno para este tipo de fotografías, ademas de conocer ese efecto especial de desenfoque que genera. Pude adaptarme conversando con desconocidos y capture una buena variedad de personas. Les dejo algunos de los retratos que hice ese día donde puede ver los diferentes tipos de personas.
